HOW TO: Quickly Apply Decals To A Christmas Ornament
In this blog, I am going to show you how to apply vinyl to round baubles.
Either watch the video or continue to read below ….
Let’s make a bauble!
The first thing I do is measure the bauble to see how much space I have for the design. If you don't have a flexible tape measure just use a piece of paper, put a mark on it and then measure the space.
I am using a small bauble for this demonstration so am just doing a really simple design and cutting it in glitter silver.
Once you have cut your design, weed all of the excess vinyl away. I had challenges with the small dot on the ‘i’ in my design. I usually make the wording in capital letters on smaller designs to avoid these difficulties but this one looked better in lowercase in the font I used.
Once all your weeding is complete, stick transfer tape over the top (I use a gridded one so it makes it a little bit easier to keep it straight). I also cut right around the letters as closely as possible then made some little slits into the transfer tape and backing paper, as this helps the vinyl to bend.
Remove the paper, press the design on the bauble from the centre first and work your way out from there. This part may take some time to avoid crinkling the vinyl.
You might find it easier to cut the design in two sections before sticking it on if the corners are a bit too curved (as I discovered in my demonstration). However, sometimes you can't tell until you get going. Carefully peel the tape off pushing the vinyl down as you go.
And it’s done!
The silver glitter vinyl sticks on really well and the glass baubles I used are great for adding acrylic paint, or you can remove the lids and fill them with glitter and feathers, for example.
I hope you liked that. If there are any other vinyl tutorials or ideas that you want to see please drop them in the comments.
